NYC Photoshoot Fundraiser for Abortion Funds

A few months ago in June, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and ended the constitutional right to abortion. In the blink of an eye, this critical right was simply gone. I’ve personally been bouncing between grief and anger, frustration and privileged avoidance. But now, it’s time to take action.

The Supreme Court on Friday stripped away women’s constitutional protections for abortion, a fundamental and deeply personal change for Americans’ lives after nearly a half-century under Roe v. Wade. The court’s overturning of the landmark court ruling is likely to lead to abortion bans in roughly half the states.AP

While this issue impacts all people who can become pregnant, it is especially harmful towards low-income people and people of color. The gravity of the situation can’t be ignored as people are doing to die unnecessarily and pregnancy is becoming criminalized. Abortion has always been a heated topic, but for me, it always comes back to choice. If someone doesn’t agree with abortion, then they can choose to personally not get one. I wish it was that simple to everyone. The majority of Americans do not agree with the Supreme Court’s decision but despite this collective uproar, it’s been easy to feel powerless as a member of the public.

Well, not anymore. I refuse to feel ineffective for one more minute.

I’m launching a new photoshoot fundraiser for the National Network of Abortion Funds and need your help to spread the word.

Here are the details:

  • Duration: August - October 2022

  • 1 hour of photography services for $197.00 total

  • Donation/pricing details:

    • 100% of proceeds will be donated to the National Network of Abortion funds. “The National Network of Abortion Funds power with members to remove financial and logistical barriers to abortion access by centering people who have abortions and organizing at the intersections of racial, economic, and reproductive justice.”

    • This pricing is in honor of the original January 22, 1973 decision on Roe v. Wade, when the Supreme Court issued a 7–2 decision holding that the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution provided a fundamental "right to privacy," which protected a pregnant woman's right to an abortion.

  • Location: This shoot offer is open to anyone visiting and available to meet in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens.

Interested? Space is limited. Reach out here: https://www.shadigarman.com/contact

I’m hopeful that this can be a way to make a small difference and support a deserving organization. I’m open and excited to see what types of photoshoots we may come up with together. Options may include:

  • Couples: Let’s commemorate a recent anniversary, milestone, or just-because occasion

  • Families: It’s always a good idea to snap photos with your human, dog, and/or cat children – they grow up so fast

  • Friends: Grab your besties and get ready for lots of laughs

Photography as a fundraiser is my way of expressing resistance that is joyful and impactful. If you’d like to support this fundraiser, please help me spread the word! I can’t wait.

Thanks,

Shadi
